Visit Thay’s Pagoda.

After Tet, spring traveling is an indispensable activity of Vietnamese people, and so we – a travel company also decided to choose a very beautiful and interesting spring tourist destination, that is ‘thay pagoda’. – Is a cluster of monuments including  temples at the foot of Mount Sai Son, Quoc Oai District, Hanoi City.

Thay Pagoda Vietnam
Thay Pagoda

At the beginning of the year, going to a temple with Vietnamese people is a very good job to wish for a lucky and peaceful new year … the day we go to the temple is the 10th of the lunar calendar according to the folk belief that it is a day of fortune. On this day everyone will pray for luck for money, work … so choosing such a beautiful day is very lucky.

We started the journey to Thay’s temple (Master Temple) at 8am from the center of Hanoi capital to the temple of Thay Pagoda which takes about 30 minutes for more than 30km of the way. Before arriving, everyone was eagerly awaiting the crowded atmosphere at the temple on the first day of the year, but contrary to the thought of all of us, the scene of the temple showed up quite deserted and a bit gloomy unlike the Other famous temples. Perhaps the pagoda was empty due in part to the drizzle or also because the country was worried that the coronary disease would spread in a crowded area, so they restricted the appearance of crowded places on New Year’s Day.

Although the weather was a little unsupportive with drizzle and a bit of cold and fog, in return we experienced something interesting that not everyone was fortunate to have. Firstly, when you are at a famous tourist destination but not crowded, you can freely admire the scenery and the important thing when coming to that temple is the feeling of gentle calm in your soul.

The temple appears  in the fog creates a beautiful picture like a fairy-tale place, in addition to the good luck of the temple ceremony, you can also take photos of artistic memories.

First, when coming to the temple, the thing that is particularly attractive to us is the image of a small temple standing in the middle of a large lake and two covered bridges on both sides of the lake. From a distance, this place looks like a place for gods. Fortunately, there were 2 tour guides in our team, so I could answer all questions quickly.

After I heard the explanation, I realized that the temple was called the water house because it was located in the middle of the dragon lake because it was there because it was the only place where folk art performances were performed in Vietnam. ‘water puppet show’ and the person who gave birth to this art is the virtue of ‘ Tu Dao Hanh’, the pagoda is called Thay Pagoda because the people here are very devoted to Tu Dao Hanh – a Zen master of the Ly Dynasty who came here. at the end of the 11th century. He was both a literacy teacher for the people, because he had erudite knowledge about grapes; just informed medicine, reasoning should often cure medicine to save people; likes to sing and dance and often teaches people to perform puppet shows, so people call him Thay, and the monk is called Thay Pagoda.

Located at the foot of the majestic Sai Son mountain, Thay Pagoda at the beginning had only one place where Zen master Tu Dao Hanh was abbot, later King Ly Nhan Tong ordered the rebuilding of Cao pagoda on the mountain and the lower pagoda or pagoda. Both. Up to now, the pagoda has been classified as a National Historic Site by the State. This is also a revolutionary monument. According to the concept of the ancients, the pagoda was built in the style of “Nguon Son Ngam Son” which means the back is leaning on the mountain, the face is facing the lake.

The pagoda was built on the earth in the shape of a dragon, facing south. In front of the pagoda, on the left is Long Dau mountain; the back of the pagoda and on the right rely on the mountain of Sai Son; between Sai Son and Long Dau is a large lake called Long Chieu or Long Tri (Dragon Pond). In front of the pagoda is a large yard overlooking Long Chieu lake, forming a jaw of dragons. From this yard, there are two bridges Nhat Tien and Nguyet Tien connecting to the two sides, forming two dragon antennae. Nhat Tien Bridge connects to a small island, on the island is Tam Phu temple and Nguyet Tien Bridge connects to the road to the mountain.

Cluster of monuments of Thay Pagoda has many relics but due to the limited time, we can only visit and admire some typical relics such as the whole pagoda, the lower pagoda in the middle of the upper pagoda, the sanctuary, the flea market and the ‘CacCo’ cave. Inside the Thay pagoda is really very quiet, composed of many Buddha statues and simulating the process of reincarnation of the holy people from virtue to come here.

After finishing the ceremony, we continued the journey by climbing, the road to the flea market was really difficult because the road was full, but the rock was high and rugged, but the distance was not far but to get to the sky temple is also a challenge with us. But once you reach the flea market, you will feel completely worth the effort. True to the name ‘flea market’ you will feel like you are in the clouds and the stones here have pictures similar to the tables and chairs of the market … there is also a chessboard … this is also the place where the Vietnamese flag of the year is hanging 1941 looking down from the base of the flag you will feel very proud to be a Vietnamese because to hang this flag so many fathers had to lie down here which proves more than 3000 sets of remains Anonymous soldiers lying in a pool of remains in the heart of the mountain flea market is also a very beautiful photography spot that many people love.

Thay Pagoda

The road to the flea market is difficult but the road is even harder, the drizzle makes the already steep rocks even slippery so make sure to pay attention when it comes to safety. The final point of our journey is the ‘CacCo cave’, the CacCo cave is a fairly large cave deep in the depths of the teacher mountain in the cave is very dark so you need to bring a flashlight to admire the beauty. inside the cave.

In the dark cave was almost completely covered, but the rays of light poured down through the sky gate on sunny days shining on stalactites sparkling with mysterious light. The cave has 9 floors, corresponding to nine floors of hell. In it, Lu Gia’s bone pool and altar on the third floor. At the entrance, there is a deep cave which leads to the 4th hell floor. Go deeper to the heaven gate, where heaven and earth, smoke from below Soaring up to see the sunlight become hazy. Through the slippery stone steps, I came to the Lu Gia altar, where the insurgents fought in the resistance against Han Dynasty. The smell of smoke and the damp air made me feel chills when I thought of the stories about the skeletons. Going completely down is the mysterious bone pool that makes anyone first seeing it startled.

The CacCo cave has a scary appearance but it is also a destination for many young people because they believe that after going to the fortress, they will have wife or husband, this is an inexplicable legend.

Ending the journey at Thay Pagoda is that we go to the ceremony, bring a little fortune to share with everyone in the group to eat to get lucky, then we get on the car to go back home to close the spring tour with how much nostalgia … appointment of Thay pagoda on a day not far …
